MY GRANDFATHER
My grandfather is a special man. I admire him and consider myself
fortunate to have him in my life because he is ninety years old. His wife died
many years ago and he still misses her I believe but he is a determined man and
a great individual. He came to the USA many years ago after the war and built a
new life. He married Sonia a wonderful woman who committed her life to him and
her children until the day she died. The three children two girls and a boy
grew up in a small home in a city in Connecticut.
The family was a close knit unit and because my grandfather lived through
many hardships he wanted his children to have the best of life. He worked from
morning till night in a supermarket with his family for many years and only
recently began working a few hours a day. He still reads a newspaper every
morning and is very involved with what is happening in our world and with the
daily news. He even drove a car but at the age of 90 his children feared he may
not be safe anymore on the roads. It was an adjustment for him but is now
becoming accustomed to taking a cab or having someone pick him up and bring him
home when necessary. He loves to tell us (his grandchildren) stories about his
life growing up in Europe and he is very grateful for his life in the USA.
He is very old
now; we admire his achievements and feel fortunate to have him in our lives. We
pray he will continue having a good and quiet life. He always says he is a
survivor and believes that working hard to accomplish your dreams can give you
much satisfaction in life. We look at him with admiration; this is a great life
vision. We hope we can continue to make him proud of us and we all love him
very much.
